Russian Piano Classics IV: Lifschitz & Volodin at Two Pianos

Programme

This event is part of the ‘Russian Piano Classics‘ Series.

MEDTNER Two Pieces, Op. 58
RACHMANINOV Suite No. 2 for Two Pianos, Op. 17
STRAVINSKY The Rite of Spring

The two-piano works in this closing concert are dedicated to dynamic Russian romanticism and the triumphant artistic return amidst hardships of three composers: Medtner’s Op. 58 reflects a near-ritualistic insistence to compose daily despite the dangers of war; Rachmaninov’s mighty Suite No. 2 proves his talent again after the cold reception of his First Symphony; and the ‘near-riot’ premiere of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring only adds on its eminence!
