Russian Piano Classics: Konstantin Lifschitz & Alexei Volodin

Russian Piano Classics

Russian Piano Classics

1 stage, 2 pianos, 4 hands, 6 composers, and 10 masterworks! Following the extraordinary Beethoven sonata cycle in 2017, pianist Konstantin Lifschitz returns to HKU with renowned fellow pianist Alexei Volodin. The story of their lifelong friendship, started from their childhood days in Moscow’s Gnessin Academy under the legendary Tatiana Zelikman, is told through an earnestly curated programme: Medtner’s ethereal Fairy Tales, Mussorgsky’s stately Pictures at an Exhibition, Stravinsky’s idiosyncratic Rite of Spring, Prokofiev’s picturesque 3 Pieces for Piano, two sets of 24 Preludes by Rachmaninov and Shostakovich, and more. The two internationally celebrated pianists will narrate these pianistic gems over four concerts.
