Robert Schumann’s Advice to Young Musicians:
Revisited by Steven Isserlis
Celebrated cellist Steven Isserlis enjoys a distinguished career as a soloist, educator, and author. One of his passions is nurturing young classical fans. He has written two hugely popular books for children, Why Beethoven Threw the Stew and Why Handel Waggled His Wig, playfully telling the stories of 12 great composers. In his newest book (release date 1 Sep 2016), Isserlis added his own extensive commentary to Robert Schumann’s Advice for Young Musicians, originally created to accompany his famous Album for the Young. Schumann’s words of wisdom remain as relevant today as when it was written, and Isserlis’ advice is by turns practical, humorous, and profound, making this volume a must for all aspiring musicians of all ages and standards.
Two hours before his recital with pianist Connie Shih*, Isserlis will engage in a dialogue with Prof. Daniel Chua (Chairperson, Department of Music, HKU), discussing his books as well as his ‘friendships’ with great composers.
Limited copies of Isserlis’ books will be available for sale starting 12:30pm and the signing will follow the recital at approximately 5pm.
