李勁持 King-chi Lee

King-chi Lee learnt Cantonese Opera movements and singing during her teenage years. She received music training at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in the zheng. She then furthered her studies at the Music Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she completed a Master’s thesis on a Cantonese music method book published in 1916, Hong Kong, examining music publishing culture in the early Cantonese music scene. In collaboration with the Chinese Opera Information Centre, she presented the lecture-concert series, Interpreting Early Cantonese Music (2014-2017). In this series, she invited Cantonese Opera vocalists and musicians to perform early Cantonese operatic pieces and discussed how a “literary singing culture” had once been in development during the early twentieth century.
