Pierre Pitzl
Pierre Pitzl studied guitar at the ‘Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst’ in Vienna, receiving his soloist diploma with honors. At the Schola Cantorum in Basel he studied lute with Eugen Dombois, Hopkinson Smith, and Jürgen Hübscher, as well as chamber music and thorough bass with Jesper Christensen and viola da gamba with Wieland Kuijken and Christophe Coin.
For several years he has been active as a soloist and accompanist on the baroque guitar with many main European baroque ensembles. He is the director of the ensemble ‘Private Musicke’ with which he has recorded several award-winning CDs for ORF Edition Alte Musik, ACCENT, and Deutsche Grammophon. Pierre Pitzl has also led various master classes and taught at the Brno University as well as at the Conservatory in Frankfurt/Main.
Pierre Pitzl currently teaches viola da gamba at the Vienna Conservatory and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
