HK DEBUT 香港首演

Programme

SCHOENBERG String Quartet No. 1 in D minor, Op. 7
BEETHOVEN String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131

“Single-mindedly fathoming the emotional recesses of the composer [Beethoven]’s psyche” – Gramophone

Recognized as one of the leading string quartets today, the acclaimed Belcea Quartet captivates music lovers with their passion, precision, and expressivity. With an impressive discography that includes complete cycles of string quartets by Bartók, Beethoven, Brahms, and Britten, they have garnered prestigious awards such as the Diapason d’Or and ECHO Klassik.

In their much-anticipated Hong Kong debut, the Belcea Quartet will perform Beethoven’s Op. 131, a work that was reportedly the composer’s favourite. Its emotional complexity has inspired many, including Schubert and Wagner. The ensemble will also present Schoenberg’s String Quartet No. 1, a rarely performed 45-minute work known for its remarkable tonal and motivic development.
