Programme

BERIO  Sequenza I

Since its 1958 premiere, Sequenza I by Luciano Berio (1925 – 2003) has remained one of the modern classics in the unaccompanied flute repertory. Like all the other 13 members of the series, Sequenza I reflects Berio’s fascination with virtuosity and encourages flutists to push the instrument’s limits. Young flutist-composer Angus Lee will join Professor Chan Hing-yan to discuss the many aspects of this canonical work, of which he will perform two renditions, one from the 1958 proportional notation, and one from the 1992 revised score.
