Makrokosmos Quartet
大宇宙四重奏

The MAKROKOSMOS quartet constituted by the pianists Ufuk and Bahar DÖRDÜNCÜ as well as the percussionists Philippe SPIESSER and Sébastien CORDIER, owes its name to the cycles of works composed by George Crumb, of whom is a part "Music for has Summer Evening" which was played during the first public execution of this formation.

It is after numerous concerts in common in varied formations, notably with the contemporary music ensemble "Contrechamps" and under the shape of "Duo Dördüncü" for the pianists, whom four musicians wanted to meet themselves in this formation created in 1937 with the famous Sonata for 2 pianos and 2 percussions of Bélà Bartok.

This instrumental formation which associates a percussif piano with a melodic percussion that too little developed during the XXth century and it is thus in the light of a common musical experience and of an accomplished work in narrow collaboration with composers such as Heinz Holliger, Brian Ferneyhough or Stefano Gervasoni who the musicians of MAKROKOSMOS curious to venture into new musical perspectives suggest enriching the directory by the commission of new creations.

MAKROKOSMOS is dédicataire of severals works by Stefano Gervasoni, X. Dayer, S. Wirth, G. Gregorio , I. Fedele, N. Baertch, edited under the label "Hathut Records".
